Phallus Amulet - Teracotta Replica of Freud's Clay Amulet by Martha Todd

Analysing the course of cultural development, Freud bemoaned the fact that the genitals have become 'objects of shame ... and even disgust' whereas they were once the 'pride and hope of living beings; they were worshipped as gods'.

This replica amulet is earthenware with terracotta slip, press moulded from the original clay sculpture by Martha Todd.

Martha Todd RCA MA is an artist working from her studio in North London. Her work is often conceptual and normally involves sculpting figurative forms, both human and animal. She makes work for exhibitions and on commission.
