Salvador Dalí and Sigmund Freud met in London on 19 July 1938, only a few weeks after Freud arrived in London as a refugee. He was 81, frail and in ill health but still alert, writing, and curious about new visitors, though selective about those he received. The meeting was arranged by his friend the writer Stefan Zweig. For Dali it was the realisation of a long-held ambition.
During the visit, Dali produced this sketch of Freud.
