£59.00

"I saw today a dear familiar face"

Sigmund Freud in a letter to his wife, Martha Bernays (1907)

He was referring to a Roman bas-relief in the Vatican Museum which was an inspiration for Wilhelm Jensen's novel, Gradiva. In the same year, Freud published a famous study of the book entitled Delusions and Dreams in Jensen's Gradiva and he later acquired a copy of the bas-relief, now known as Gradiva, which hangs in his study.

This plaster-cast relief is made exclusively for the Freud Museum and cannot be found anywhere else. Each relief has a hook at the back for hanging and comes in two finishes:

  • Sepia oil paint (grey bag)
  • Golden shellac and bronze powder (blue bag)
